Caring for hair extensions
In order to maintain the quality of your hair extensions and make you happy for a long time, it is very important to take a proper care.
1. It is mandatory to purchase a special comb for taking care of hair extensions. With this comb, the hair should be combed several times a day, carefully combing the hair root area. This is very important during the period when your hair has grown from the roots, as your hair can make knots at the attachment points. If you have hair extensions longer than 50 cm - when combing the ends of the hair, be sure to keep your hand at the hair roots so that they are not being pulled out.
2. If the hair has been styled, such as curled and a hair spray has been used, it must be combed before washing.
3. When going to the sea and visiting the pool, the hair must be in ban, before making a ban, comb your hair thoroughly. After pool, the hair should be washed with shampoo and conditioner, as chlorine and salthy water can permanently damage the structure of the hair extensions.
4. Sleep with hair in ponytail (using 3-4 hair bands) or in a loose braid.
5. You can safely visit the sunbathing stations, but it is recommended to use a hat to cover your head, because the hair can become dry due to UV rays.
6. When using sauna, a towel should be wrapped around your head - the heat can damage the hair attachment points.
7. Hair may be straightened with a straightener at a temperature not exceeding 180 degrees and not more than 2 times a week, avoiding the hair attachment points, as they may melt. Before straightening, use cosmetics that protect the hair from heat. Please, mind, the heat can damage the hair.
8. You can color the hair extensions darker with a professional hair color ( not more than 3 % oxidant) that do not contain ammonia. Hair extensions should never be bleached.
9. Sleep with wet hair should be avoided.
10. Mousses, hair sprays and gels may be used.
11. Note that the use of curling iron, hair straightener and hot hair dryer significantly shortens the life and quality of hair extensions.
12. CAUTION! If the hair is not smooth, silky and easy to comb after washing and drying with a hair dryer, it is necessary to change the hair cosmetics. Hair cosmetics play an important role in maintaining the quality of hair extensions, especially for blonde hair owners.
13. It is recommended to dye the hair roots before or during hair maintenance. If necessary, it is recommended to color all your hair before hair extension.
14. To maintain cool hair tones at home, it is necessary to use hair toner (available in the MELLA.lv store).
Hair washing:
• Comb your hair thoroughly before washing.
• Do not wash your hair in hot water, it is recommended to use warm water.
• Hair should be washed in the shower or bath (so that the hair is upright). Washing your hair leaning forward injures the hair roots.
• It is not recommended to wash your hair every day (if necessary, only the upper part of the hair can be washed one day and all the hair on the other).
• Moisturizing shampoos, masks and conditioners are recommended for washing hair. To maintain the quality of your hair, we recommend using the hair cosmetics available in the MELLA.lv store.
• When applying shampoo, conditioner or mask to the hair, avoid hair attachment places and keep the hair upright. The conditioner / mask should be applied to the entire length of the hair, especially on the ends of the hair. The hair should then be rinsed thoroughly. The conditioner and mask should not be applied to the attachment points of hair extensions, it can promote the slippage of hair.
• Avoid contact of hair extension attachments with chemicals, masks or conditioners.
• If a strand of hair extensions has fallen, it should be saved and brought to the hairdresser for re-extension. If you have other problems, you should immediately contact the hairdresser who made your hair extensions.
• The hair roots and hair between the rows of hair extensions (tapes or bonds) should also be carefully combed after each wash. If the hair roots are not combed, the hair may make knots at the attachment points.
Brushing and drying hair after washing:
1. After washing, it is advisable to wrap the hair with a towel, leaving it for a while to absorb excess moisture - this will shorten the hairdryer using time.
2. After removing the towel, you need to use an oil for ends, evenly applying the product along the entire length of the hair (most of all - on the ends) and spray on the hair with a hair care product that protects against high temperatures. After each wash, you need to thoroughly dry the hair extension attachment points with a hairdryer.
3. Never dry all hair at once without layering it. If you do not divide the hair into layers, then the upper part of the head will be dry, and the attachment points of the hair extensions will be wet for several hours, this can demage the hair extension attachment points and strands can fall out.
4. First of all, dry the "bangs" (if you have one). Then we separate the down part of hair - layer from ear to ear. First, dry the hair roots and attachment points, then dry the rest of the hair. Only after the roots are dry and the separated part of the hair has dried, this part can be combed. Carefully comb the root zone of the hair. If the hair extensions are very tangled, start combing from the ends of the top, holding the hair roots with the second hand.
5. Separate the next part - approximately at the level of the temples - and again dry the roots, then - the rest of the hair length, and only then carefully comb the roots.
6. It is forbidden to comb wet hair, as it is very fragile - part of the intercellular ligaments in the hair fiber dissolves in water. When the hair dries, the bandages are restored. When brushing wet hair, especially if it is tangled, it pulls slightly. Unprotected areas are exposed and can be easily demaged by the comb. Where micro-cracks form, the hair usually breaks or splits.
